Entry from: Halong Bay, Vietnam Entry Title: “A better day in Vietnam” Entry: “I felt a lot better after a good nites sleep. The minivan was picking me up at 8am, so I quickly got ready, and headed downstairs. There’s no restaurant at the hotel, so I ran across the street, and purchased a bottle of water, and a couple of little peanut bars. When the bus arrived, I was THRILLED to see English looking people aboard. Actually one young couple were from Australia, and the other single guy was from Germany, but all spoke wonderful English, and that was music to my ears. We picked up a few more people, and were on our way. As is normal…..the Vietnamese drivers are just as crazy as the other SE ASIA drivers. The only difference is they constantly beep their horn. They usually drive in EITHER lane…..or straight down the middle. They’re not particularly choosy. As we drove through Hanoi, our guide told us that the word Hanoi means ‘City inside the River’. He also pointed out a HUGE bridge, and said that the man that built the Eiffel Tower also constructed their bridge. Once we got outside of the city, the scenery was beautiful. Lots of rice fields. All you could see was the little pointed hats sticking up in the fields. It amazes me how the Vietnamese, and in fact ALL of the Asians that I’ve seen have …
