Cannot find a hotel for lesss than $100/night in Fort myers,Cape Coral, Sarasota area why?

I plan on going to see sanibel island and wnated to stay in this area, but i am making the drive from orlando,fl and hotels are very expensive.

   Its winter and all the tourists are flooding the market. . . call a travel agent for the best results. . . . Sanibel is small and there are public beaches full of shells and view. . . . I personally didnt like the shelly(not sand) areas. . . hurt the feet. . . . but picked up tons of shells and sand dollars a few yards out from shore. . . . . . good luck

   Try this link. I found several hotels in Sarasota and Bradenton which are offering hotel stays for $63 a night on up.
