Cape Cod family vacation?

My family and I want to go on vacation to Cape Cod. They are six of us. I’ve been researching a bit but Im still not sure where to stay and what to do. We would like to stay in relaxing beach area thats not to far away from a great town with good restaurants or things to do at night, so that every family member can find something that interests them. I’ve heard that the Cod is an expensive place to stay, but if anybody could recommend a not too expensive hotel that can fit all of us comfortably. Maybe a cottage or villa, if not a hotel or resort is great. Thanks! Also, we plan to go in July, maybe August.
**what is the distance from Edison, New Jersey, to Cape Cod? about how long is the trip driving?**

Google maps says just under 300 miles and just under 6 hours.

That’s a tall order, to get all those things. What’s your idea of expensive?

My family stays in the low-rent district, Yarmouth along Route 28. We particularly like the Town and Country, but this is a very basic motel. The fanciest amenity is the indoor pool with hot tub. I just paid $62 for a Saturday night in June. The Cove at Yarmouth is more of a “resort”, and they were sold out at $200/night. July and August is the highest season, so expect to pay a bit more. (Prices may have been low as it was a cold, rainy weekend. )

That’s still a family-oriented area, and night-life isn’t a big deal. That’s not what you go to the Cape for. Back when I was childless the biggest nightlife was Pufferbellies or the Mill Hill Club, both tired discos. The former is still open. They’re on the Hyannis line, and you might find finer dining there, or maybe in Chatham. There were a few clubs with live music or comedy at night.

There are certainly cottage rentals. In a normal economy you wouldn’t get one on such short notice, but they may be available. I hope other answerers know who replaced BestGen as the clearinghouse. For 6 I’d just put two rooms together at the cheap motels, if 4 beds (and a cot or two) will do it.

It’s almost a joke the number of miniature golf places along Route 28, but that’s what goes for entertainment. Like I said, families. Very peaceful and relaxing.

There are plenty of beaches. In that area we use West Dennis Beach. Both the beach and the parking lot are narrow. There isn’t much surf on the Nantucket Sound (south) side. There are some hotels that are right on the beach.

If you want honky-tonk, something to entertain every member of the family, you might be better off continuing to Hampton, New Hampshire, or staying on your own state’s shore.
