If someone asked you to name a city in South Africa, the chances are that Cape Town would be one of the first ones that would come to mind. But it may not be even close to the top of your list of possible holiday destinations for this year. That could change however when you discover just what it has in store for you. For starters there are plenty of beaches to enjoy if you like soaking up the sun. There are basically three areas to focus your attention. The first is called False Bay, which contains a number of different beaches to explore. You can also the beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard as well as three others on the West Coast. Needless to say you really are spoilt for choice here. But it isn’t just the sea that attracts holiday makers. Other naturally occurring sights are just as desirable to visit during your stay in Cape Town. Perhaps the most famous one of all is called Table Mountain. This is so called because of its appearance, as it has a flat top which is very unusual for any type of mountain. There is a cable car system that can take you to the top of the mountain, but if you are up for some hard work then consider hiking instead. It is very enjoyable provided it isn’t too hot, and it is a wonderful way to spend a day enjoying the fresh air and scenery. You will definitely be impressed when you reach the top and take a look out over Cape Town itself. If you would prefer a more sedate day ahead of you, make sure you don’t miss the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. As the name would suggest, this is very close to the water – literally right on it in fact, as it was constructed on a portion of the docks in the area. It isn’t too far from Table Mountain either, so once again the views are spectacular. One of the most telling facts about this particular destination is that it is very popular with people who live locally too. There are plenty of shops available here, so you can spend some of your holiday money on some local delights to take back home with you. In addition to that you’ll find plenty of places to stop and relax and grab a bite to eat. While you do you can watch the docks working just as they do every day. It’s clear that Cape Town has a lot to offer. Flights to Cape Town are readily available, and with lots of accommodation to choose from you can’t fail to have a great stay in this part of South Africa. Its suburbs however are enormous, located in widely varied surroundings and stretching outwards from the city centre for tens of kilometres. What makes a Cape Town holiday so interesting are the attractions located in each of these suburbs. Each suburb is rich in a culture and history as varied as the surroundings you find them in. The contrasts between Bishops Court, Kommetjie, the Cape Flats and Kayelitsha are mind boggling, reflecting South Africa’s deeply divided past. The latest buzzwords in the property industry are fractional ownership, but what exactly isit. . . Fractional ownership is similar to a syndicated purchase, except that it provides a turnkeypackage. In other words, buyers don’t have to find their own friends, partners or neighbours etc in order to form a syndicate to buy a freehold or sectional title property. The key benefit of fractional ownership to consumers is that they are able to purchase shares in a leisure property at a fraction of the cost of purchasing an entire property, but without any of the hassles of maintenance and generally with a hospitality component included. And the cost is a once-off with ownership in perpetuity, and with minimal annual fees to cover items such as management, maintenance etc. Worldwide fractional ownership models are usually divided into three business models. These are:A) Traditional fractional interest comprises a product selling outside the hospitalityenvironment. These are usually of average quality, in regional resort areas, without typicalresort amenities and services characterised as a product at the low-end levels of quality. InSouth Africa they are generally recognised as syndicated properties. B) High-end fractional interest (HFI) is a product selling within a hospitality environment, andwhich represents a step up from the entry level, typically due to some combination of a moredesirable location, lower density, larger unit size, higher construction and furnishings quality,and/or additional amenities or services – often characterised as ‘four-star’ quality. C} Private residence club (PRC) represents the pinnacle of quality – not just among fractional interests but in comparison with virtually any resort accommodation available, due to a combination of locations in the top tier of resort destinations on prime sites, extraordinary architecture and design and the highest levels of services and amenities, ie ‘five-star plus’ quality in every way. Examples are the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons private residences around the world. Around the world, fractional ownership is extremely popular and rapidly growing – a trendwhich is also becoming evident in South Africa. Fractional interest resorts exist in four primary types of destinations: ski (52 percent), golf (23 percent), beach (20 percent) and urban (three percent). Fractional interest share sizes range from one-twenty-fifth providing two weeks of annualownership to a quarter providing 13 weeks of annual ownership. During 2004, when fractional interest sales totalled approximately R7,3 billion worldwide, the average price of a fractional interest was R1,5 million, up from R1,4 million in 2003. Prices at PRC resorts averaged R1,66 million per fraction, at HFI resorts R1,1 million and at traditional fractional resorts R670 000 per fraction. One bedroom units are most common at traditional fractional resorts, while two and threebedroom units are most common at HFI and PRC resorts. Sizes range from about 160sqm to225sqm. Seven out of 10 active fractional interest resorts have affiliation with an external exchangecompany, such as Interval International who have more than 2 000 properties in their portfolio, providing new owners with an opportunity to travel the world. In addition, many resorts offer internal exchange through a club or private relationship between independent developers.
Rental and resale programmes are offered by more than half of all active resorts. The vast majority of owners worldwide report being satisfied with their fractional interest. The most important purchase motivations are: location of the resort; quality of finishes andfurnishings; and extent of on-site amenities and activities.

The Sunrise Coast along the Gulf of Thailand has some of the very best beach weather in all Thailand. Most of the year the area enjoys long hours of sunshine. Although like elsewhere in Thailand it is hot all years round, the coast benefits from cooling sea breezes which make it feel less humid.
Just a few hours by taxi or limousine service or train from Bangkok.
This coast attracts visitors from all over the world. It does not receive the same amount of publicity as some of the more famous Thai beaches and islands, but is a firm favorite destination for those seeking what many term the real Thailand together with beaches, islands and a relaxed and calm lifestyle.
The most famous towns and resort areas of the Sunrise Coast are Hua Hin and Cha Am. These resort towns offer hotels and beach resorts, vacation holiday apartments, family friendly beach hotels, beach villas, suites and botuque spa resorts.
Hua Hin is the busiest resort and offers dining at the beach or over the water at the famous fishing pier Waterfront. The town center is busy with night makets, small shops and even large malls. The town retains a very Thai atmosphere and is one of the top domestic tourism destinations in Thailand for local residents. Hua Hin also offers a chance to discover the history of Thailand. The historical Railway station with old steam locomotive, historic buildings and many excellent temples to visit.
Top Hua Hin hotels and resorts in the Cha Am and Hua Hin area include: Hilton, Hyatt Regency, Sheraton, Intercontinental, Marriott Resort, Chiva Som Health Resort & Spa, Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Sofitel , the new Cape Nidhra, The Rock, Wora Bura, Evason Six Senses Hideaway ( in Pranburi ) and Resort and many others.
Just north of Hua Hin and Cha Am is Phetchaburi, famous for the Old hilltop palace and many famous temples. Inland is the Kaen Krachan National Park, jungle, off road adventure trips.
South of Hua Hin is the famous coastal National Park, Sam Roi Yot. Deserted beaches, caves, river and wetlands, famous for birdwatching.
South along the coast the visitor can stop in the town of Prachuap Khiri Khan and enjoy the amazing coastal iews and temples. South again to the beaches of Baan Krut and ang Saphan from where a short boat ride takes you to the beautiful island of Koh Talu to enjoy beach, sea kayaking and snorkeling.
Chumphon is the nect main town south from where fast boats will take you to the famous scuba and snorkeling island of Koh Tao. Diving resorts and now even luxury accommodations are available. A short boat trip to Koh Phangan or Koh Samui. There are now flights from Bangkok to Chumphon with Solar Air, flights from Bangkok ( Don Muang Airport – DMK ) to Chumphon are daily except Sunday and the flight time is 1 hour 15 minutes
The main highway and rail line makes beach hopping fdown the Sunrise Coast easy. Local cars ( taxis ) are available plus also air conditioned express buses.

The name “Oxnard” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like Catalina, La Jolla or Coronado, but the city named Oxnard does lay claim to some of the state’s most wide open, accessible beaches and a whole host of nearby attractions that make it definitely worth considering as base camp for your next beach getaway in the Golden State. Even though this part of Southern California boasts lots of sun, sand and scenery, the prices for your Oxnard getaway are likely to be a little less than more famous beach communities. And in today’s economic climate, that becomes a major consideration for many families who don’t want to entirely forego their getaways, but also want to be prudent about costs. Driving about 60 miles northwest of L. A. helps lower those costs. Don’t let the suburban look and feel of Oxnard fool you. Oxnard is a rather bustling suburban city centrally located so that you can easily visit such attractions as the Reagan Library, the Paramount Movie Ranch or nearby cities such as Ventura or Santa Barbara. And about seven miles from our convenient location near the 101 freeway was the beach and nearby Channel Islands Harbor. When you visit Oxnard, the primary attraction is that beach – a place we’ve visited on several occasions and never seen more than a few families and surfers scattered over a vast expanse of sand. While the surf can get a little busy because of the beach’s angle to the sea, that’s just another advantage for folks who prefer some wave action. As you explore the area, you begin to realize there are a lot of upscale homes along the beach areas and scads of public parks and access points. You’ll want to check out Hollywood Beach where Clark Gable once lived and where Rudolph Valentino filmed a movie. In fact, such movies as Spartacus, Only You, It’s a Mad, Mad World, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and Back to the Future were all filmed at Hollywood Beach. McGrath State Beach is where the bird-watchers flock, and you’ll especially enjoy the dunes at Mandalay Beach where you’ll also find jogging paths, volleyball courts and barbecue areas – kind of a Venice Beach for everyday families. Down at Fisherman’s Wharf we enjoyed browsing the Ventura County Maritime Museum with its extensive collection of antique sailing ship models, maritime paintings and various sea-themed exhibits. There also are waterfront restaurants and shops down in this part of Channel Island Harbor. After checking out the nearby attractions, we spent a little time basking in the sun poolside at the Courtyard Marriott Oxnard Ventura, a hotel with amenities that appeal to both the leisure traveler and the businessperson. Our king suite, with its two over-sized rooms, gave us plenty of room to stretch out and was especially convenient for us because we were combining business with pleasure – a nine-year-old who couldn’t wait to turn on a Disney movie full blast and a father who had business to conduct while on the road. Solution: separate the suite into a business side and a kid side. If you do have a smaller room, the hotel features an elaborate business center where you can work uninterrupted. It also should be noted that the Courtyard has done an excellent job updating all the furnishings and fixtures in the hotel’s rooms using elegant color schemes and offering such extras as flat-screen 32-inch televisions, internet access and plenty of desk space if, like me, you have to do a little work while getting away. The new fitness center, pool, lobby areas and service are all top-notch and befitting Marriott’s excellent reputation in the hospitality industry. Also, don’t miss the hotel’s full breakfast buffet offered each morning – it’s an amazing assortment of hot and cold dishes offered for one reasonable price. This Courtyard is, in fact, a little bigger than most you’ve seen, and all of the rooms are especially spacious. The Plaza Grill restaurant offers breakfast, while lunch and dinner are served in the lounge, which is also a popular spot for business travelers to gather in the early evening. The hotel’s location is especially good if you want to use your stay in Oxnard to visit nearby cities and attractions. It’s quick to hop on the freeway north to Ventura and Santa Barbara, or south to the Reagan Library and Paramount Ranch. Paramount Ranch was on our list of must-see’s this trip because we’d always wanted to visit a movie ranch – a place where they filmed westerns back in that genre’s heydays. Paramount Studios bought the 2,700-acre ranch back in 1927 and proceeded to use it over the decades to film major movies with many of the top-name stars of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. Among the movies filmed at the ranch were Gunfight at the OK Corral, The Streets of Laredo, The Virginian, and Hopalong Cassidy Returns. Paramount Ranch was later used for such television shows as The Cisco Kid, Have Gun Will Travel, the Rifleman, Bat Masterson and, more recently, Charlie’s Angels, Chips, the Dukes of Hazard, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and Diagnosis Murder. Nowadays they still film at the ranch, but it also is available as a recreational park where you can take the kids hiking or just go marvel at some great Santa Monica Mountains scenery. The centerpiece of the ranch is the western town that you can walk through and imagine what it is like when they are filming a western with all of the costumed actors, livestock and extras. If you plan ahead, you can use Oxnard as your jumping off point for a trip to Channel Islands National Park – either half or full day excursions are offered. These magnificent islands are just off the coast and visitors will find they are completely isolated once the boat leaves them for a camping trip on one of the islands. If you just want to get out on the water, kayaks, paddle boats and motor boats are available for rent at Channel Islands Harbor. During winter and early spring you can take whale-watching trips out of the harbor and you can go fishing or enjoy seeing dolphins and other sea life any time of the year. Wine-lovers will enjoy the Ventura County Wine Trail, a progression of several different wineries, all relatively close by and plotted on a map for visitors to follow. Drive about a half hour east from Oxnard and you’ll find the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which we made a point to visit in Simi Valley. The library features a fascinating collection of artifacts, photos and records that help us to learn more about our former president. The most spectacular exhibit at the library has to Air Force One, the plane used to fly Reagan on his historical trips around the world.
