San Francisco has many fascinating visitor attractions

What comes to mind when you think of San Francisco? Rice-a-roni and the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe these days it’s more likely gay rights and the Silicon Valley. Whatever your thoughts are, San Francisco retains a special place in the heart of most Californians because it so much epitomizes the state – its spectacular beauty, its breathtaking coastal and bay views, and its historic architecture. To be sure, it’s an expensive place to live – perhaps the costliest place to live in California – but an incredibly diverse and entertaining place to visit. San Francisco hotels are among the best in the world and each seems to have its own charm and window into San Francisco history. Some are located by the waterfront, while others are perched on one of the many hills that have made this city famous. Whether you’re a California resident, or visiting from out of state, San Francisco should rank high on your list of California destinations. While it’s a good 400 miles north of the Los Angeles basin – in other parts of the country you would travel through three or four states to drive that far – it’s so much a part of the California experience that it cannot be overlooked. Before you visit, though, there are a few things you should know. According to Laurie Armstrong, vice president of public relations for the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, Important Tidbit Number One is: You don’t need a car. The city is congested enough with all those people on that little peninsula but the good news is that public transportation in San Francisco is easy, fast and cheap. You can find a Bart (mass transit) station at the airport, or across the East Bay and let these modern trains whisk you into the downtown area. From there, you can walk, take a streetcar or take a short taxi ride to any part of the city you want to visit. If you do take your car, be sure to budget for parking spaces that cost more than some cheap motel rooms. To save even more money, Ms. Armstrong suggests buying a San Francisco CityPass, which will give you seven days of riding all San Francisco Municipal Railway vehicles: cable cars, streetcars and buses. The pass, which is priced at $43 for an adult, also includes admissions to some of the city’s best museums. Another important thing to remember when visiting San Francisco is that the weather is quite a lot cooler than Los Angeles or the Central part of the state. “We can always tell who the visitors are,” said Ms. Armstrong, “because they’re the ones wearing shorts. You have to remember if it’s sunny and hot in the Central Valley, it’s foggy and cold here. Some cities sell tee-shirts – we sell sweatshirts. “A few of the highlights in San Francisco that you’ll not want to miss are Fisherman’s Wharf with its bustling waterfront, museums and many restaurants. A trip to Alcatraz is a must – you’ll see first-hand what it was like in maximum security prison that housed the likes of “Machine Gun” Kelly and Al Capone. Pier 39 is the second most visited attraction in California and is just east of Fisherman’s Wharf. The Aquarium of the Bay is located here as well as various rides and attractions. No one will want to miss the Golden Gate Bridge, but be sure to visit the other side where you’ll find that Marin County offers spectacular views of the bay and attractions all its own. With about 1,000 acres, the Golden Gate Park is an attraction unto itself with trails, grassy meadows, lakes and gardens. Go to the area just west of Van Ness Avenue and you’ll find more than 14,000 great examples of Victorian architecture. Coit Tower is atop Telegraph Hill and you’ll find a history museum inside. Chinatown is a colorful part of the city, rich in ethnic culture and well worth a visit. And don’t forget to stop by Lombard Street, “the crookedest street in the world. “According to the folks at the San Francisco CVB, here are some other interesting stops to make while in San Francisco:Boudin Sourdough and Bakery Tour – Just opened in Spring 2005, the two-story Boudin flagship building is where visitors can observe 5,000 square feet of bakery action. Located in Fisherman’s Wharf, you can take a history tour showing the legend of San Francisco sourdough and enjoy some fresh-from the oven samples while you’re at it. The deYoung Museum – This well-known attraction has been around more than 100 years and, on October 15, will re-open in a state-of-the-art facility that integrates art, architecture and natural landscape. The facility will showcase the museum’s priceless collection of art from the 17th through the 20th centuries. Metreon in Yerba Buena — Metreon is the first-of-its-kind entertainment center located at Fourth and Mission streets in the heart of downtown San Francisco. This 350,000 square-foot complex features an eclectic mix of the Bay Area’s best restaurants, shopping venues, theatres, and entertainment destinations, including the West Coast’s largest IMAX theatre. Presidio of San Francisco — Formerly a military post, the Presidio is a national park and recreational paradise featuring spectacular vistas, meandering trails, and historic and architectural treasures. Go for a hike, a walking tour, a picnic, to view an exhibit or take a stroll back in time. Entrance to the park and most programs are free. The park is open daily, year-round. Winchester Mystery House, San Jose — A bizarre, four-story mansion containing 160 rooms. Mrs. Sarah Winchester kept carpenters and craftsmen busy 24 hours a day for 38 years building this Victorian structure, but its strange construction and purpose remain a mystery. Hours Daily from 9 am daily; closed Christmas Day. Admission $19. 95; $17. 95 seniors 65 and over; $13. 95 ages 6-12; under age 5 free. Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet Museum — America’s most famous aircraft carrier is a National historic landmark. Families experience Naval History and space exploration firsthand with authentic aircraft on display, Apollo exhibit, and flight simulator available. Hours 10am-5pm, admissions close 4pm. Limited access Tuesday. Admission $12 adults; $10 military, students and seniors; $5 children ages 5-18, free under 5. The Exploratorium — Experience exciting and interactive exhibits that make learning fun, regardless of your age or familiarity with science. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. year-round. Closed Mondays except holidays. Admission $13 adults; $10 students, seniors, disabled and youth (13-17);$8 children (4-12) and under age 4 free. Finally, your trip to San Francisco would not be complete without visiting many of the locations in the general vicinity of San Francisco. Napa Valley and Sonoma are just a short drive north and east out of the city. Just across the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll find Sausalito with its many trendy shops and drop-dead views of San Francisco. Travel south from the city and you come to the beach city of Santa Cruz, a popular travel destination for both Californians and out-of-staters. Farther south is the historic Monterey Peninsula with its many reminders of John Steinbeck and its world-class golfing at Pebble Beach. A little south of Monterey is Carmel, a storybook village with great shops, elegant boutique hotels and fine restaurants. AT A GLANCEWHERE: San Francisco is located about 400 miles north of the Los Angeles basin. WHAT: San Francisco boasts some of the finest hotels, restaurants and historic attractions in the state of California and is culturally one of the finest cities in America. Oh, did we mention the gorgeous bay views from almost any given place in the city?WHEN: Any time of year. The climate in San Francisco is closer to Seattle than Los Angeles, so dress warm. WHY: This is just a must-see part of California and will give you many sightseeing options while you visit. HOW: San Francisco hotels can be expensive so be sure to look for travel deals or vacation packages to help lower the cost.

Masters rowers are a dynamic group who lead busy lives, and careers that take them all over the country. With the opportunity to travel comes the opportunity to see what rowing is like in a different city, and take in some sites, time willing. Boathouse Finder (www. BHFinder. com) provides a very useful geographic search of rowing clubs and boathouse around the country and throughout the world.
If you have any rowing travel-related stories, we’d love to hear about them. You can email us at info@bhfinder. com.
AUSTIN
Austin’s Town Lake is arguably the perfect spot to row. The 6 miles of water is dammed at both ends, so there is no strong current. The weather is mild throughout the year, so rowing never stops; in fact the winter is the preferred time to row among local rowers, and spring breakers. There are no motorboats or jet skis allowed (except for coaches’ launches), so no need to worry about getting waked.
Rowing Dock is a privately owned, privately managed rowing club and boat rental facility located on the west end of Town Lake. Here the water is calm and the lush banks create a serene atmosphere. It is easy to get to from MoPac or downtown, and it offers a large parking lot. Rowing Dock is open a dock attendant is on duty all year during busy hours to help patrons with boats. With proof of skill and current membership in any recognized club, out of town rowers can rent the recreational single sculling boat. Other patrons may rent from a selection of single, double or triple kayaks or quad water cycles. Check the website or call for hours.
Austin Rowing Club is a non-profit run by an elected board. It hosts the two major regattas in Austin each year. They offer sweep rowing and sculling. ARC is located in downtown Austin near the Four Season Hotel; if you get the timing of your row right, you could enjoy the nightly bat flight from Congress Bridge, which can be seen from ARC.

BOSTON
Boston and Cambridge are rife with rowing history. Nine boathouses line the Charles River. Four belong to clubs: Union, Riverside, Cambridge, and Community Rowing. Five belong to colleges: MIT, Boston University, Harvard, Radcliffe, and Northeastern. Guest rowing can be difficult depending upon which club you contact as some clubs require sponsorship from a member. Cygnet Rowing Club, with two boathouse locations, offers hourly rentals of single sculls.
Dividing Boston and Cambridge, the Charles River is an elegantly serpentine aquatic ribbon that varies in width from about 200 meters to more than a kilometer. During warm weather, and even not so warm weather, it is alive with all manner of rowing craft, sailboats, kayaks, “duck” boats, excursion boats, and powered pleasure craft. The round-trip distance from the Science Museum to Watertown and back is about seventeen miles. On the average morning the entire length of the river is rowable, although the chop tends to kick up below the Boston University (BU) bridge after nine a. m. Almost all the college programs have agreed to use wakeless launches, which has maintained the generally flat conditions, and only on impossibly windy days (or winter, when the river freezes) is the entire river unrowable. The scenery along the way ranges from intensely urban to quietly suburban. The river is bordered by Memorial Drive on the north bank, and Storrow Drive on the south, and a bike path runs the entire length of the river on both banks.
CLUBS ALLOWING GUEST ROWING
•Cambridge Boat Club
•Community Rowing Inc. of Boston
•Cygnet Rowing Club
•Riverside Boat Club
SITES OF INTEREST
Boathouses dot both shores from the Lower Basin out to Watertown. Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market are hugely popular settings for dining and shopping. Whale watch excursions leave from the inner harbor throughout the day, as to harbor island excursions. Jacques Cousteau once proclaimed that Boston Harbor is the most beautiful harbor in the world as one enters from the sea.
The Freedom Trail brings history alive for millions every year, while the “duck” boat tours unite the experience of river and city. The Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park (home of the Red Sox), the Boston Public Library, and the Hatch Shell (riverside outdoor performances of all kinds) are just a sampling of rewarding outings awaiting the curious traveler.
MAJOR REGATTAS
•Fall: Head of the Charles
•Summer: Cromwell Cup
•Spring: Riverside Sprints

CHICAGO
Visitors to Chicago are often surprised to discover how very beautiful this city is – with its sparkling lakefront, world-class architecture, and incredible cultural attractions. For rowers, an additional source of amazement is the experience of rowing on the Chicago River in the very heart of a great American metropolis.
Chicago’s three rowing clubs are situated at different points along the “Y” shape of the River. The Chicago River Rowing & Paddling Center’s boathouse is located at the base of the “Y”, at the mouth of the River where it meets Lake Michigan. This downtown portion of the River, the Main Branch, runs East to West right through the business district and a panorama of famous buildings. Chicagoans walking to work hail to the rowers below from the many bridges that span this segment of the River. The other two sites – the Chicago Rowing Center’s site on the South Branch, and Lincoln Park Boat Club’s site on the North Branch, are located in industrial areas that evoke the “City of Big Shoulders” image. In any case, the water is as smooth and endless as the vistas are compelling.

LOS ANGELES
Sunny Los Angeles offers a lot of great things for rowers, with the best being the opportunity to row year-round. There are very few days each year when weather keeps you from getting a great workout. Los Angeles rowers have the good fortune to row in the largest man-made small boat harbor in the world, a place called Marina del Rey. The Marina’s waters are well protected, making it possible to row on flat water most mornings. A three-mile head race is hosted by the California Yacht Club every fall, which is one loop around the Marina. Beyond rowing, there are tons of tourist attractions and outdoor adventures to be had in Los Angeles, with countless hotels and restaurants near the water (and near LAX, which is just minutes from Marina del Rey).

Philadelphia was one of America’s original rowing cities. It is host to the infamous Boathouse Row and is home to hundreds of oarsmen/women. SAN DIEGO
Rowing in San Diego is pretty much situated on Mission Bay, located about six miles north of the San Diego Airport, and flanked by Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. The area abounds with restaurants, beach and bay boardwalks, and hotels. San Diego Rowing Club is located in Mission Beach, with ZLAC Rowing Club located in Pacific Beach. In general, due to water-skiers, most rowing is done in the early hours, or at dusk, but there is plenty of water, and ever-changing scenery, with bird sanctuaries, Sea World pens and the local marine life.

SEATTLE
Rowing in Seattle is rather mystical. Rowers often start their day by launching while looking at the top of Mount Rainier, and seeing the reflection of dawn breaking over the city skyline all in one glance. Then there is plenty of water to choose from, all of which has a different flavor and feel. One direction can take rowers up a shipping canal toward the Puget Sound (the Locks) where there are barges, huge ships and fishing vessels along the shore. Rowing in Lake Union offers the opportunity to see the awesome Seattle city skyline. Turn north from Lake Union and Portage Bay is home to many houseboats bobbing up and down on the water. The Montlake Cut, or “the cut” as it is known, connects Puget Sound via the Locks to Lake Washington. Once through the cut, Husky rowers generally populate this area. Rowing in Lake Washington offers spectacular views of the Olympic Mountain ranges and Mt Rainier.
Rowers can go out every day of the year. Inclement weather is few and far between, though a constant soft drizzle in the winter is common. When the sun is out, it is arguably one of the most spectacular urban rowing landscapes.

CLUBS ALLOWING GUEST ROWING
•Cascade Rowing
•Conibear Rowing Club
•Lake Union Crew
•Lake Washington Rowing Club
•Moss Bay Rowing and Kayaking Center
•Pocock Rowing Center

SITES OF INTEREST
Seattle is comprised of twenty-six neighborhoods all of which have their own character and charm. Fremont, near Lake Washington Rowing Club, is a funky/artsy neighborhood full of unique boutiques, restaurants and pubs. In Fremont, you can visit the infamous Troll that overtook a VW BUG that lives underneath the Aurora Bridge or the rocket ship that is stuck on a building or the statue of People Waiting for the Bus.
A few miles from Fremont is another neighborhood called Ballard. In Ballard, it’s still possible to hear Swedish and Norwegian being spoken on the streets. Ballard traditionally housed Seattle’s fishing industry, which was dominated by Scandinavian immigrants. If you want fresh-caught fish from the market, this is the place to go.
North of the University District is the Greenlake neighborhood. This hugely popular lake has a walking/biking/ rollerblading path around the whole lake (about 3 miles). The north side of Greenlake has some wonderful coffee shops and a great chowder house.

Capitol Hill is the gay/lesbian/artsy part of Seattle. It is known for its nightlife and houses a trendy strip of nightclubs. The best cup of coffee in Seattle can also be had on Capitol Hill, at Espresso Vivace.
The downtown Seattle area boasts one of the most famous open-air markets: Pike Place. This market is known for its flying fish, crafts, food, pastries and shopping. Virtually anywhere you go in Seattle, you’ll find something totally different and unique.
MAJOR REGATTAS
•Fall: Head of the Lake Regatta
•Spring: Opening Day Regatta
WASHINGTON, D. C.
Rowing in the nation’s capital dates back to the early 1800’s. The oldest boat club in Washington, D. C. , Potomac Boat Club (circa 1869), is well over one-hundred and thirty years old. Thompson’s Boat Center, a public facility located a half-mile down river from Potomac Boat Club hosts the majority of the high school and collegiate rowing programs in the area. At Thompson’s Boat Center, individuals can rent single sculls by the hour, providing they can prove they have sculling experience. Capital Rowing Club, located next to the Navy Yard, in southeast D. C. , rows on the Anacostia River, and also offers opportunities for guest rowing. Perhaps the best thing about rowing in D. C. is being able to see many of the monuments from the shoreline such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and Arlington Cemetery to name a few.

SITES OF INTEREST
Obviously the tourist attractions are numerous in Washington, DC, but a couple of sites near Potomac Boat Club and Thompson’s Boat Center include the Iwo Jima Memorial and Arlington Cemetery, the National Cathedral, a plethora of monuments on and around the Smithsonian, and walking and shopping in historic Georgetown, Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. If you’re in the neighborhood of Capital Rowing Club, a nice place to visit on the weekends is the Eastern Market, an open-air crafts and foods market that has been in existence for over 100 years. It’s directly across the street from the Eastern Market metro stop.
A nice place to have lunch or dinner right on the Potomac River is Tony & Joe’s or Sequoia’s at the Washington Harbor in Georgetown. In fair weather, these restaurants are packed on the weekend, and are great places for people watching.
MAJOR REGATTAS
•Fall: Head of the Potomac, September
•Summer: Crabfeast Regatta, July
•Spring: Oxford-Cambridge alumni regatta

Real Estate Everett Real Estate Everett and Seattle Real Estate are forces within the northwest Puget Sound region. In Real Estate Everett, you will find one of the best economies, the most job openings and now a stabliizing real estate Everett market. Yes values have gone down, and sure they may continue to decrease over the next year or so. However, builders, developers and realtors are starting to look at investment opportunities in the area much more so than a year or two ago. Real estate Everett may just be back on track to small sustained growth within the next couple of years. Goodman Real Estate of Seattle has bought a six-story office/lab building on the downtown Seattle waterfront. Goodman paid Watumull Enterprises of Honolulu $6. 85 million for the building, on University Street between Western Avenue and the Alaskan Way Viaduct, according to county records. It was built in 1918 as a warehouse, and, while not designated a historic landmark, was deemed worthy of such protection by the city’s Department of Neighborhoods in a 2007 survey. The building was Immunex’s headquarters before the biotech was acquired by Amgen in 2002. oodman Real Estate has submitted preliminary plans for a 15-story apartment building in downtown Seattle less than two blocks from Washington State Ferries’ Colman Dock. It’s one of the first new development proposals to surface in the downtown core since the real-estate market collapsed two years ago. For Goodman, it represents a change from earlier plans to build a 12-story office building on the site, now a parking lot bounded by Western and Post avenues and Columbia and Marion streets. The newly proposed apartment building, the Colman Tower, would have about 200 units on the sixth through 15th floors aimed at “young urban professionals,” according to plans filed with the city’s Department of Planning and Development. Parking and street-level retail would occupy the lower levels. Goodman representatives did not return calls seeking more information. The city’s Downtown Design Review Board is to consider the project Aug. 24. Goodman’s switch from office to apartments makes sense, said land-use economist Matthew Gardner. While downtown office vacancies remain high, the high-end urban apartment market appears to be stabilizing, Gardner said, and it’s much easier to get financing for apartment projects than other construction. What’s more, he added, Colman Tower probably won’t be ready for tenants until at least late 2012 or early 2013, when the market may be healthier. “Goodman’s timing is good,” Gardner said. Several new, large apartment projects have broken ground in Seattle in recent months despite the recession. Among them: Harbor Properties’ Link Apartments in West Seattle, and Avalon Bay Communities’ Avalon Queen Anne project in Lower Queen Anne. At least one other downtown development proposal, Urban Visions’ 35-story tower at Second Avenue and Pike Street, has been redesigned as an apartment project, in part to increase the likelihood of obtaining financing. Urban Visions’ original plan was for a luxury hotel and condos. The Alaskan Way Viaduct separates Goodman’s Colman Tower property from the waterfront. If that aging roadway is demolished, Goodman could be sitting on a gold mine, Gardner said:”Will (demolition of the Viaduct) increase property values exponentially? Absolutely. “The city’s conceptional plans call for a waterfront boulevard and new public spaces once the viaduct is torn down. But, according to the state Department of Transportation’s most recent plan, demolition won’t occur until at least 2016, after a tunnel is built to replace the elevated highway. And the tunnel, which still faces political obstacles, is no sure thing. Seattle-based Goodman Real Estate was founded by John Goodman in 1990. Its assets include more than 34,000 apartments and 2. 5 million square feet of office and retail space, according to the firm’s website. Within Real Estate Everett, the lenders and financial institutions may pull the applicants credit while applying online if the applicant provides the credit conditions by giving the social security number. If he does not provide with the SSN number then his credit condition will not be revealed at the time of application, but can always be verified during the procedure before he gets the home loan modification. Thus Andy or anyone else who is facing the similar problem should try to increase his credit rating and then apply but this time with some other broker and loan modification company. While applying for federal loan modification program the applicant should fill in with all the true facts in the mortgage loan modification form, because if upon verification it is found that the details provided are not correct then the application is rejected. Let’s say for example if the income indicated does not match with the with income proof given, then problem may arise and lead to rejection. However most people choosing to do a loan modification are in debt, many have lost their jobs or are making less income than when they initially got the loan, therefore their credit is hindered and at times their credit is ruined. ##If you have any questions about Real Estate Everett, modifications or need additional guidance, feel free to contact Lacey Lingenfelter with . She does not modify loans but will do her best to point you in the right directions to contact the necessary parties. You can also contact Hope Now, HUD or your local HUD office. Real Estate Everett wishes you the best with your situation and just remember that regardless of the obstalces you’re facing, there is a light at the end of that tunnel. #/#

Is New Construction Right for You?

Shopping for a home is fun and exciting. It can also, however, be infuriating when you have to make sacrifices and only get some of the things you were initially looking for when you began your search. As a buyer today, you have much power over the marketplace. There are fewer buyers than sellers and that means that many sellers are willing to go the extra mile to impress you. Sometimes though, changes and upgrades just aren’t possible for the seller.

Consolidate Credit Card Bills and Pave your Path Towards Freedom from Debt

Credit card debt shouldn’t be allowed to go out of hand as credit card companies charge a lot of interest on late payments and missed payments and this interest is much higher than the interest charged on any type of loan. Due to this high interest rate one should always be careful about the debt rising too high as credit card debt when given the opportunity to increase will sum up to such a huge amount over a period of time that it will become difficult to pay off the debt at one go i. . .

Visitors Guide To Seattle Washington

Posted: Jul 25, 2010 |

]]>

The city of Seattle is situated in the eastern area of the state of Washington in Northwest America, between the waters of the Puget Sound and Lake Washington. Known for its appealing atmosphere and emergence as the USA’s city of the 1990s, Seattle’s waterfront is its main attraction and this lies along the Alaskan Way, although the city does contain a number of must-see sights. Seattle’s community is built on commerce, fishing and timber, greatly influenced by the nearby Boeing aerospace company. Full of gourmet coffee shops, museums, art galleries and a lively nightlife, the city now also celebrates an important tourism industry. Seattle is a large cosmopolitan city, covering around 90 square miles / 233 square kilometers, with a population of almost 600,000. The city incorporates many smaller communities and important, historical neighborhoods. Amongst these locations are the Ballard, Belltown, Capitol Hill, Pike Place Market, Freemont, Greenlake, Pioneer Square, Queen Anne, SODO and University districts. Seattle Tourism:Tourist attractions in Seattle are varied and impressive, making Seattle an excellent vacation destination. Facilities include many notable landmarks and monuments, museums and art galleries, parklands, recreational activities and insightful guided tours of the city. Top attractions include the Boeing Factory, Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Fisherman’s Terminal, the Smith Tower Observation Deck, Hing Hay Park, Safeco Field Stadium, the Seahawks Exhibition Center and the Seattle Center – both a cultural center and popular amusement park constructed for city’s World Fair, which was held in 1962. Seattle is perhaps best known for its eye-catching Space Needle, which towers around 150 meters / 490 feet on the city skyline, offering spectacular views. City museums worth a visit include the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, the Museum of History and Industry, the Science Fiction Museum and the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). Popular parklands in the Seattle area include Discovery Park, Freeway Park, Green Lake Park and the Washington Park Arboretum. Seattle Transport:Around Seattle, public transport provides a number of affordable options, including Amtrak trains, Greyhound and regional buses, and boats from Canada. One of the most popular ways to travel around the city is on the Metro Transit Buses, which are cheaper outside of peak hours. Renting a car is another transport option favored by many visitors to Seattle, allowing easy exploration of the city and surrounding areas. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport stands around 12 miles / 19 km from the city center and is a bustling transportation hub. With many passengers both arriving and departing each day. The airport provides a number of affordable ground transport options, which include shuttle buses, taxis, car rental options and luxury limousines. Seattle Hotels:The city’s central downtown district is often booked solid during the summer months, when hotel rates are at their highest. However, outside of downtown Seattle you will find many further hotels, which are more reasonably priced and just a short distance from the city center. Room rates are also often reduced during the rainy season, from October to April, and at weekends. Bed and breakfast accommodation in Seattle is both affordable and popular with visitors, with a number of options being located close to the waterfront. Seattle Restaurants:Seattle takes its coffee very seriously and is famous for being the origin of Starbucks, with the first store still in operation at Pike Place Market. Many other stylish coffee shops and espresso bars can be found throughout the city, together with an abundance of restaurants and dining options. Restaurants in Seattle cater for all palates and many are concentrated along the waterfront, where seafood is a particular specialty. The northwestern side of the city is another popular dining location, with restaurants offering Pan-Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, Mexican and more traditional American cuisine. Seattle Shopping:Seattle is a popular shopping destination offering a large range of major shops and stores. Facilities include a number of famous designer outlets, vast department stores, boutiques and large shopping malls. Popular shopping areas include Broadway Avenue East, First Avenue, Maynard Avenue, Pike Street, Pine Street, Queen Anne and West Dravus, Seneca and Fourth Avenue and University Way. Seattle Weather:The Seattle area is known for its rain, although this is a little unfair, since the city’s annual rainfall averages less than 40 inches / 100 cm. Much of the weather is both fine and mild, with hot summers and cooler winter weather. Temperatures are hottest during the months of July and August, peaking at around 25°C / 77°F. January is the coldest month, when temperatures during the daytime average 8°C / 46°F, well above freezing.

Attracting visitors from across the country and around the world, the city offers memorable experiences to one and all. Connected by all major air carriers, finding a cheap flight to Seattle can be done with the help of any of the various online travel portals. A unique fascination is what the city exudes and perhaps makes its high point. A rich past and an equally affluent present, a vibrant culture and an enriching heritage, these are just some of the many possessions that the city proudly boasts of. Seattle is one of those several places in the U. S where even an affordable vacation feels like an indulgent one, given the fact that it caters to every pocket and every budget. Its sightseeing options are aplenty and interesting, its events calendar buzzing round the year and its neighborhoods are as eclectic as ever. After you are done with exploring the urban and have spare time on your hands, do visit the city’s scenic and expansive nearby communities, they’ll intrigue you like none other. Seattle has some prominent landmarks where it is guaranteed that you’ll get immersed in excitement and exhilaration. These include Pike Place Market, Seattle Center, Woodinville Wine County, Seattle Waterfront and Fremont Troll. While a visit to all the prominent places of the city is a must, how about a trip to its equally thrilling museums, art galleries and exhibition centers and various performing arts venues? Destinations like Woodland Park Zoo, Olympic Sculpture Park, Future of Flight Aviation Center, Museum of Flight, Seattle Art Museum, Nordic Heritage Museum, Burke Museum within the city provide equally lively encounters. Since the city receives travelers of all shapes and sizes, colors and hues, it knows how to take care of the distinct needs as well. Therefore, finding a suitable place to stay or an inexpensive joint to eat is not difficult at all. Seattle is dotted with cheap hotels and guesthouses and youth hostels, bed and breakfasts and holiday homes, local eateries and other small restaurants. An inviting nightlife that offers wholesome entertainment is something that Seattle is proud of. You could savor a meal with your significant other on a roof-top restaurant, enjoy a few beers at a neighborhood pub or bar, shake a leg at the dance club or simple soak in the ambience of an elegant lounge.

Christmas is Special Time to Enjoy Seattle Attractions

Posted: Dec 05, 2008 |Comments: 0

]]>

Winter Wonderland — not exactly. But Seattle is especially festive during the Christmas holidays, and a great destination to combine shopping with a special getaway.
From Seattle Center to Westlake Center to the Pike Place Market, the usual visitor attractions become just a little more special on a chilly winter’s day. Throngs of excited, bundled-up families and couples sample the seasonal offerings at Westlake such as Quest carousel rides, or the kettle corn and elephant ears nearby. Vendors make balloon animals for the kids while loud Christmas music blares in the background making sure no one misses out on Seattle’s holiday spirit.
Make it an overnight trip and it’s even better. First, you’ll be sure to see the numerous Christmas lights along downtown streets including the famous star on Macy’s, the Space Needle lights and many other special seasonal touches. And, by staying overnight, you can turn a shopping trip into a true getaway.
Our base of operations was a Seattle landmark, the Edgewater Hotel. Maybe you remember that the Edgewater was famous during the Sixties when the Beatles stayed there and fished right out their window. In fact, it became the obvious choice for many famous rock groups that came into town during that period to play for one of Pat O’Dea’s spectacular rock concerts.
Today the Edgewater has a classic elegance that combines the best location in Seattle with an updated interior design that evokes the Northwest’s rich Native American heritage. The first thing we saw when entering our waterfront room was a Washington State Ferry – just out the window and across the waters of Elliott Bay. Our view made us feel like we were traveling on a cruise ship with nothing but water between us and the ferry. This, of course, is the major attraction of the aptly-named Edgewater – a location literally out on the water with incredible views of Puget Sound and nearby islands.
Our room featured many Northwest accents such as a log headboard on our comfortable king-size bed, bark trim and a wood panel above the corner fireplace, Native American designs on the carpets with knotty pine baseboards, and Indian characters and designs on the wood-frame entertainment center. In the bathroom, a large claw-style bathtub looked awfully inviting, while the modern colors and fixtures made the room look like something you would see in a magazine on interior design. The floors were amber quartz slate, while the room also included a glass-enclosed European spa shower.
With a room at the Edgewater – which features a constant parade of boats just outside your window — there is the temptation to just stay there and enjoy the endless sights and sounds. But our main objective this trip was to check out the city’s Christmas activities, so we walked over to Pike Place Market, just a few blocks from the hotel.
The market is one of Seattle’s most recognizable symbols – right up there with the Space Needle. That probably has something to do with the way TV sports announcers always make a point of showing footage of the market while broadcasting Seattle Seahawks or Washington Huskies sports telecasts. Typically the shot is one of the fish handlers throwing King salmon – thus we were pleased that, upon our arrival, the fish were indeed flying. Just like the 50 or so other visitors standing around watching, we had seen for ourselves the famous Pike Place Market fish throw.
Those fish handlers in their sweat suits, hoodies and aprons aren’t the only reason to stop by the market at Christmas time. The market goes all out in its decorations and, in fact, has Christmas trees available – not that we wanted to cart one back to the Edgewater. Take a walk just north of the first fish market and you enter a beehive of activity where it seems like just about anything you want is for sale – fresh fruits and produce, honey, herbs, dried flower bouquets, jams and jellies, nuts, fruits, chocolates, tee-shirts, purses, you name it. There actually are several fish markets in the same building, as well as restaurants where you can dine on fresh fish before you even leave the market. .
Just across the street from the market, in front of the Starbucks, a musical group called Slimpickens was warming up the crowds with lively 1930’s style music played in a four-piece configuration: guitar, stand-up bass, violin and washboard. Dressed in 30’s garb, the group also seemed to be getting a Depression-era response to their music: lots of smiles and toe-tapping, but not many coins dropping into their prominently placed cup.
Along about here we encountered Piroshky, Piroshky, a tiny take-out restaurant serving up fresh Russian piroshkies for just under $5. These were just baked and, if you’re wondering, the piroshky is a little like a flakey turnover filled with meat, cheese or other fillings. They’re delicious and, for us, provided a quick and inexpensive lunch.
Some friends of ours went instead to Von’s Grand City Café, just a few blocks from the market on Pine Street where the meal was fine but they reported back that this was the first time they had encountered canned champagne. They ordered a split of champagne and the can that was delivered to their table had a straw attached – which our friends said reminded them of the fruit drink boxes they get for their kids. Of course that’s what visiting the “Big City” is all about – experiencing new things.
A few blocks from the market is Westlake Center, a modern, multi-story shopping center with upscale stores and – because of its location near Macy’s and Nordstrom — the epicenter of retail activity downtown. It’s here that, for just $2 each way, you can hop on board the Monorail – originally built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair – and zip over to Seattle Center where their Winterfest celebration has continual holiday entertainment and one of the coolest model railroads and miniature Christmas towns your kids will ever see.
Soon it was time to head back to the Edgewater, where we watched the fog roll in and marveled at how the few sailboats that were out on this wintery day were able to dodge the Washington State ferries. Thank goodness for foghorns and radar, we would guess. Just a few minutes walk from the Edgewater is the Spaghetti Factory, where we enjoyed a tasty but inexpensive dinner.
The night was restful and, when the sun came up the next day, the skies were blue and the views from our room were like a picture postcard. No need to lose that view while having breakfast — downstairs at the Edgewater we stopped in for a hearty meal with the best views in town at the hotel’s award-winning Six Seven restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices, given the restaurant’s prime location and upscale reputation.
More downtown exploration was on tap for our second day, with no shortage of merchandise available at unusually good prices. Soon it was time to go home, but it wasn’t like a trip home from the mall in which you’re exhausted and swear never to go shopping with the multitudes again. Yes, we’d accomplished our Christmas shopping all right — but we also felt invigorated by an unforgettable holiday trip to Seattle’s Winter Wonderland.

Downtown Seattle Condo Living

By: Eric Badgely
Posted: Mar 24, 2011

From Belltown to Pioneer Square, from the Waterfront to the International District, downtown Seattle has an ideal neighborhood for everyone. Living in a condo in downtown Seattle is the perfect solution for those looking to live right in the heart of such a booming district. With easy access to every downtown neighborhood, not to mention such incredible outer lying neighborhoods as Queen Anne, Capitol Hill, and the University District, downtown Seattle condos give residents the ability to live right in the middle of Seattle. The types of condos available vary depending on location and price, but the positives of living in the downtown area remain the same no matter what your budget or preferred condo style. With a wide variety of shopping opportunities available, the retail district of downtown Seattle boasts some amazing choices of condos – all within close proximity to the best stores Seattle has to offer! Architectural styles in this area range from structural expressionism to Victorian-style, and everything in between. The Four Seasons Private Residences, for example, offer breathtaking views of the Elliot Bay Seattle waterfront and the Olympic Mountains. Want to experiences the views first hand? No problem! Getting to the waterfront itself requires merely a brisk, five-minute walk. While you’re there, be sure to take a stroll down by the piers, or stop in at the world-renowned Pacific Science Center for a look at their lovable sea otters. Belltown condos are some of the most breathtaking in the city. Located in the heart of downtown, they are all within walking distance of such wonderful Seattle sights as the Pike Place Market, the 5th Avenue Theatre, and the Westlake Center Shopping Centre. The available condos in this area range from inexpensive to luxurious, with prices offered everywhere in between. Many, such as the Alexandria Building, offer exceptional architectural design. In the case of the French-inspired Alexandria, a wonderful display of “Wuthering Heights” vignettes greets visitors before they enter the building. On the more affordable end of the spectrum are the Royal Crest Condos. Built in the 1970s, these condos offer a convenient location for those who want to be close to everything downtown Seattle, but don’t want to break the bank. But don’t be fooled, these condos still have all the amenities. The fourth “Plaza” floor boasts an outdoor swimming pool, saunas, and a furnished party room. Seattle’s very first neighborhood, Pioneer Square is an area that has somehow managed to escape the influx of new residents of downtown Seattle’s other districts. The area boasts an array of condo choices, with styles that vary from Richardsonian Romanesque, (many of them Victorian reinterpretations of the style, built to make up for the destruction of the majority of the wooden buildings in the area due to the Great Seattle Fire), to Second Renaissance-Revival, and Beaux Arts Classical. The majority of the historical buildings in the area are of Romanesque design, giving the whole area a much more “uniform” feel than many of Seattle’s other neighborhoods. Pioneer Square’s tapestry of small bookstores, art galleries, bars and coffee shops make this an area that is somehow both up-and-coming, yet filled with historical relevance. The area boasts such elegant condo choices as the Nord, which was built after the Great Seattle Fire, and originally served as a hotel. Whether you’re looking for a structural expressionism condo in downtown Seattle’s retail district, a luxurious Belltown condo, or a Romanesque condo in Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle condos have something for everyone to enjoy. And with new developments being built every day, the opportunities just keep getting better.

What to Consider When Furnishing a Condo
If you are like many people who buy a condo, you looked at the unit, fell in love with it, and decided to buy it. You are well on your way to enjoying the condo lifestyle, but many people get tripped up when they think about how to furnish their new home. If they are downsizing, they suddenly wonder where everything will go. And if they’re buying a home for the first time, they wonder how they’re going to fill it up. How to Bring the Outside Into Your Condo
For all the upsides of living in a condo – and there are a lot of them – one of the glaring downsides for many people is the fact that most condos do not offer the same opportunities to access the outdoors as do single-family homes. Considering that condos often are located in high-rise buildings, it is a trade-off with which people thinking of living in a condo must be comfortable. But there are ways for condo-dwellers to bring the outside in.

Seattle City Guide- a Ride Through Seattle City

Any Seattle city guide, will always kick-off by referring to the nickname entitled to Seattle city- ‘the emerald city’. The emerald like greenery spawning in the surrounding area should corroborate the words of the Seattle city guide. Seattle, a coastal city (yes, it harbors a port too) of the United States, is located in the State of Washington and is also the largest city in the Pacific North-west region of the U. S. Geographically, Seattle city is located between ‘Puget Sound’ (an arm of the vast pacific ocean) and Lake Washington. The Canada-U. S border is around ninety-six miles away from Seattle city. Taking a break from the altitudes and longitudes of Seattle city, it would be better if the Seattle city guide hits on a venture around the city. Firstly, the ‘Space Needle’ should undoubtedly top the Seattle city guide into being the most recognizable landmark in the city. The logo of the T. V series ‘Frasier’ or the backgrounds of a T. V series ‘Grey’s anatomy’ and another named ‘Icarly’ should help one in envisaging ‘the space needle’, or perhaps sweet memories of the movie ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ should help more. Seattle center, surrounding the ‘Space needle’ is a host venue to several civic events along with few cultural extravaganzas like ‘folklife’ and ‘bite of the Seattle’. Few of the other important landmarks of the city which ought to be mentioned in the Seattle city guide are: The Columbia center, which stands tall with 76 storeys to be the tallest building in the North in the Pacific Northwest, the ‘Washington Manual tower’, which is Seattle’s second tallest skyscraper, the Fremont Troll, the Seattle Central Library, the experience music project, the Pike Place Market and the Starbucks Center (the largest building by volume). Seattle city guide can’t just be complete by listing few skyscrapers of the city. Seattle city, also called the ‘Rainy city’ has much more to offer. The ambience around the countryside of Seattle city, where greenery abodes in all forms possible, is much more beautiful than the description provided by any Seattle city guide! A glance to the volcanic (yet a marvelous treat to eyes) Cascade Range in the east during early mornings should be an ideal start to any day. The picturesque views that the city offers is something a Seattle city guide can’t miss on. Queen Anne hill, the downtown Seattle skyline, the Elliot bay and the Lake Union views from the Space needle can be rightly called (by this Seattle city guide at least) a picture perfect scenery. The beauty of the Seattle waterfront across the Eliot bay, viewed from the Alki point, compels any Seattle city guide to mention its name in it. Lake Union, typically famous for the umpteen houseboats around has seaplanes, ships spread through along with sail boats and all the amazing utilities of water sports for enthusiasts. The climate of Seattle is mild and wet in winters and is quite dry in summers. It rains for around 225 days in a year in Seattle. The population here ranks 23rd in U. S and is increasing every year, thanks to the opportunities and jobs available in the city that entices people. A line from the title song of a T. V series which goes like “The greenest green you ever seen, in Seattle’, probably sums up the entirety of a Seattle city guide.
