When organising a corporate event, entertainment or conference, the importance of an appropriate venue cannot be over-estimated. Sunderland has many such venues to offer, whether the event is a large conference, private networking event, or intimate business dinner. Highlights of the venues that are in demand for corporate events hosted by offices in Sunderland are detailed below. The Sunderland Empire Opened in 1907 and host to musicals and theatre events such as Miss Saigon and City sings, the Sunderland Empire is also available for conferences and corporate events. The venue can hold 1800 seated guests but capacity can reach 2000 if standing room is taken advantage of. The venue has three bar areas, a 100 person capacity function room and two corporate hospitality rooms. Easily accessible from Sunderland city centre, the Sunderland Empire makes for a unique entertainment and conference facility, especially suitable for motivational speakers and awards ceremonies. Washington Old Hall Set in Washington Village, a historic landmark equidistant from Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, Washington Old Hall is ideally situated to take advantage of this proximity to major centres of business. The manor house incorporates parts of a 12th century structure which was home to George Washington’s ancestors and features displays on George Washington and the Independence of America. The venue can accommodate up to 80 participants and also boasts a Jacobean garden. The Quayside Exchange Overlooking the waterfront of Sunderland City, the Quayside Exchange is a Grade II listed building in the heart of Old Sunderland. The venue offers facilities for corporate events of 10 to 300 participants with function rooms, an in-house catering team and disabled access on very floor. The Grand Room can accommodate 100 to 220 guests and has hosted the Duke of Wellington and Sir Walter Scott. This banqueting suite adjoins two further suites which contain private bars. The Main Bar will comfortably hold 100 to 200 guests and boasts a central bar, mezzanine floor and a private heated terrace overlooking the waterfront. The Vaulted Basement is ideal for smaller events of 30 to 100 people. Stonework sourced from Sunderland town hall sets off three separate vaulted alcoves perfect for networking and private dining. Sunderland Marriot Hotel As the only four star hotel in Sunderland, the Sunderland Marriot is ideal for high profile events. The hotel overlooks Whitburn Sands and is located only 2 miles from the city centre. The hotel boasts six meeting rooms, with the largest function room capable of hosting 300 participants. All-in-all there is 675 square metres of space available for corporate meetings. The facilities include audio-visual equipment and resources, high-speed Internet access and a business centre. Catering is available for meeting and the banqueting suites can accommodate numbers from 10 to 250. For out-of-town guests or events that take place over several days, the spacious guest rooms and suites, many of which boast sea views will appeal. A fitness room and indoor swimming pool are also available for use by guests, ensuring that the experience will be fondly remembered.

Valletta lives up to its reputation of being A City Built by Gentleman for Gentleman

]]>

As cities go, Valletta is one of Europe’s most famous. Built over 500 years ago it is often described as a city ‘built by gentlemen, for gentlemen’ and has recently been made a World Heritage Site signifying its cultural importance. When you walk into the city expect an explosion of activity, colour, noise and confusion. Apart from being Malta’s capital, Valletta is also the commercial and political centre and is filled with hundreds of shops as well as a vast daily market. For the more discerning visitor there is plenty of history and culture to get your teeth stuck into. Valletta is teeming with museums, galleries, palaces and other places of extreme interest – most of which are very much worth visiting. But, more importantly than all of that, it is the people who make Valletta a truly beautiful place to visit. Whether you are walking down the main road – Republic Street – or off down one of the many, many side streets, you will find a wide variety of people each with a story to tell. Don’t limit yourself to the beaten track either. Under the fortifications and around the bastions there are plenty of interesting little places to look at, bars to sit in and while away the time and, of course, people to chat to. We are not for one second suggesting you miss out on attractions like St John’s Cathedral, the Armoury or Museum of Fine Arts. That would be wrong. But we do suggest you take the time to discover the real heart of Valletta. And what about the Valletta Waterfront? Grand Master Pinto must never have imagined that the sumptuous warehouses he built 250 years ago, at the height of the baroque period in Malta, would have been turned into one of the hottest leisure spots on the Island. Stretching along the water’s edge and the historical Quay Wall where the Knights of St John and European merchants used to unload their vessels, the Valletta Waterfront invites you to discover its complete mix of retail, dining and leisure experiences. The various bars, restaurants and night clubs housed here offer a unique experience to patrons who wine and dine in this majestic setting within Malta’s Grand Harbour – a natural deep water port, for many thousands of years the epicentre of Malta’s maritime activity, a truly exceptional and outstanding backdrop. The Valletta Waterfront has also served as a splendid venue for open-air concerts, where Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and Italian versatile blues singer Zucchero have enthused thousands to open-air concerts. One also finds toys, a vast array of typical Maltese souvenirs and handcrafts like Mdina Glass and Gozo Glass products, traditional filigree and lace weave known as ‘bizzilla’ in Maltese as well as classic Knights statuettes. In addition, there is also a wide selection of delicate gifts to suit everybody’s tastes. The Valletta Waterfront is the gateway to Malta’s capital city, Valletta – a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen. In fact, as one of the most successful Mediterranean ports, the Port of Valletta welcomes more than half-a-million cruise passengers into what can be termed as an “open air” museum.

Abundant luxury on offer at Cape Town’s One and Only resort

Edit Article |

Posted: Oct 20, 2009 |

]]>

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more luxurious hotel in a better location than the breathtaking One and Only resort in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. Cape Town’s One and Only is one of six similar resorts worldwide, all developed by hotel magnate Sol Kerzner – also famous for the luxurious Atlantis resort in Dubai. His Waterfront-based hotel cost more than R1 billion to build, and it is clear that no expense was spared. Decorated with exclusive, dark African woods and contemporary work by local artists, a personal butler and private balconies or terraces for each of the 91 rooms and suites, with unobstructed views of the harbour and Table Mountain, you wouldn’t want to venture outside. Not that it would be necessary. The One and Only at the V&A Waterfront boasts two of the best restaurants in the country, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a luxury wellness and beauty spa and an exclusive boutique. With more than 6 000 different wines on offer – the largest collection in the country – and two Michelin star chefs, dining at the One and Only is nothing but exquisite. Its Japanese restaurant Nobu and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant are both earning rave reviews. If you prefer something lighter next to the pool, the Vista Bar and Isola restaurant will fulfil your every need. The One and Only ’s Neo Boutique, complete with champagne bar, offers a collection of high-end fashion labels, including Stella McCartney and Temperley, while labels such as Thierry Colson and Pierre Handy are now available in South Africa for the very first time. The resort is located within close walking distance of the V&A Waterfront, one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, with a multitude options for shopping, dining and entertainment. It is also a mere stone’s throw from the Cape Town city centre and Cape Town’s world-famous beaches at Clifton and Camp’s Bay.

Anniversary Trip In and Around Sausalito

Just 15 minutes north of San Francisco, you’ll find the charming bayside town of Sausalito to fill out your Road Trip Planner. Sausalito is picturesque with a great waterfront area. There are houseboats and flower-lined side streets, quirky stores and plenty of places to dine, most with a view of the bay. It’s also very near the Redwoods (Muir Woods, about 8 miles), a couple of beaches within 20 minutes (Muir Beach, Stinson Beach), Angel Island & Tiburon just a tad north, and of course, San Francisco about 15 minutes south. You’ll find a broad range of hotels to suit your budget. Consider indulging yourself at the Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa ($200-$405/night) that’s right on the waterfront (street side) and where every room has a view of Richardson Bay. Another good option is The Inn Above Tide, which sits right over the water ($305 to $1025/night). Both hotels are on Bridgeway, the main street in Sausalito. If a less expensive hotel fits your budget better, add one of the following hotels to your road trip planner: Hotel Sausalito (a bit of French Riviera on the park in Sausalito) starting at $155 or one of the others in the low $100s/night range. Sausalito attracts visitors from all over the world as evidenced by the amount of different accents you overhear as your stroll along the waterfront. And yet, Sausalito manages to retain that “hidden gem” feeling. Another standout was the number of exclamations, “Wow! Look at that skyline!” Pictures were taken in abundance, and deservedly so. Another favorite activity to add to your road trip planner is to rent bicycles in San Francisco, then plan a full day where you ride from San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge, coast into Sausalito, even venture further north into Tiburon if you’re so inclined, then take the ferry back to San Francisco from either Sausalito and Tiburon. I snapped a photo of the last ferry leaving Sausalito showing that the majority of passengers came with bikes. Below are some examples of the things you can do in this area. Adding these to your road trip planner will give you a varied (and full) vacation!Day 1 – Sausalito’s Waterfront: Bridgeway is the main thoroughfare but on the next street up the hill, Caledonia, you’ll find a movie theatre, an historic hardware store, antique shops, dining spots, and art galleries. Definitely worth a visit. A travel tip: You can get free wireless in and around the library. You’ll also find free wireless in a few of the coffee shops on Bridgeway. Day 2 – Muir Woods: There are many hiking options available to experience the California Redwoods, from an easy 1/2 hour stroll to a strenuous 4. 5 uphill Ocean View loop. While there, I spotted a number of bus tours that went to Muir Woods: www. SFShuttletours. com, Tower Tours, www. city-sightseeing. us. Day 3 – Alcatraz Island: We lucked out with a docent connection who gave us a private tour so we got to experience a unique Alcatraz! He took the stairs two at a time to show us Al Capone’s cell, the Birdman’s cell and also where Clint Eastwood stayed during the filming of the movie, Escape From Alcatraz. For the public tours, the ferry takes up to 300 passengers at a time and when you arrive, the group is split into three groups of 100, each led by a docent. The ferry is located near Pier 39 so you can easily make a day of it between the Pier activities and shops and Alcatraz. A travel tip: Save $ by parking after 4 p. m. ; you can even find some free parking on Bay Street (which Ts onto the Embarcadero). Day 4 – The Lighthouse Cafe is a small dining establishment with 5 tables and 8 bar chairs. They are open from 6:30 a. m. – 3 p. m. and while we were there, all the tables were kept full. There’s a saying, “When in Rome. . . ” so I went for the Copenhagen Burger with remoulade. Tasty! Then it was off to Muir Beach for some primetime kite flying. A travel tip: Games People Play on Bridgeway in Sausalito has a large inventory of cool kites (I picked up an 18-foot frog kite but there are others that are more than 60-feet long!). You might just need to tack on a few more days to your road trip planner because both Angel Island and Tiburon are also worth exploring while you’re in and around Sausalito.

Australians are active people but they also need some recreations as all people do if they are already stressed out with the things that are keeping them from constantly occupied: their work. That is why, it is important to meet your family, friends, relatives and even co-workers to have some time to relax. It will serve as the bonding sessions for everyone. Why not, it occurs once in a while, you deserve it after long days of working. Among the finest styles to make bonding is to go to the greatest eating place in Geelong. However, it needs your precious time and effort to find the best one in Geelong as they have a lot of restaurants that you can select from. You can choose from Italian, Seafood or Waterfront type of restaurant, name it and you’ll get it in Geelong. Italian Restaurant. The old expression “the Italian food is barely made up of about twenty dishes” seen at the Italian restaurants in Australia isn’t real. As a matter of fact, Italian food makes an extensive assortment and in reality it varies everywhere. The different regional Italian cuisines present in Italy takes cues from neighboring people and spices it up with a lot of local encouragement to offer the unique Italian cuisine. An attractive example of the famous Italian food is the cuisine from the area of Geelong. Seafood Restaurant. There are diverse kinds of seafood restaurants. There are the quick-service ones; there are also the ones which cater to the middle class and the higher-end ones which cater to the upper class. The quick service seafood restaurants are very much alike to fast-food restaurants. In general, seafood restaurants offer a wide variety of seafood and they serve it in different fashions. Waterfront Restaurant. Waterfront restaurants are a cozy haven to unwind all throughout the summer and winter and perfectly suited for your event no matter the size. The views are guaranteed to impress and amaze the customers. It usually caters to traditional seated wedding settings with a dance floor and also accommodates stand up cocktail function. Waterfront restaurants also have a private heavy-duty veranda with gas heaters and an incredible elevated view of Harbours. It is a perfect venue for your next event or function. To compliment the aspects there’s a broad array and expressive style of menu selections for you to scrutinize and modify. Additionally, this type of restaurant offers canapé finger food for cocktail functions and various set menus for a more formal occasion. Geelong is a place where you can find these kinds of restaurants. What you need to do is to look for the ideal restaurant for you.
