When organising a corporate event, entertainment or conference, the importance of an appropriate venue cannot be over-estimated. Sunderland has many such venues to offer, whether the event is a large conference, private networking event, or intimate business dinner. Highlights of the venues that are in demand for corporate events hosted by offices in Sunderland are detailed below. The Sunderland Empire Opened in 1907 and host to musicals and theatre events such as Miss Saigon and City sings, the Sunderland Empire is also available for conferences and corporate events. The venue can hold 1800 seated guests but capacity can reach 2000 if standing room is taken advantage of. The venue has three bar areas, a 100 person capacity function room and two corporate hospitality rooms. Easily accessible from Sunderland city centre, the Sunderland Empire makes for a unique entertainment and conference facility, especially suitable for motivational speakers and awards ceremonies. Washington Old Hall Set in Washington Village, a historic landmark equidistant from Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, Washington Old Hall is ideally situated to take advantage of this proximity to major centres of business. The manor house incorporates parts of a 12th century structure which was home to George Washington’s ancestors and features displays on George Washington and the Independence of America. The venue can accommodate up to 80 participants and also boasts a Jacobean garden. The Quayside Exchange Overlooking the waterfront of Sunderland City, the Quayside Exchange is a Grade II listed building in the heart of Old Sunderland. The venue offers facilities for corporate events of 10 to 300 participants with function rooms, an in-house catering team and disabled access on very floor. The Grand Room can accommodate 100 to 220 guests and has hosted the Duke of Wellington and Sir Walter Scott. This banqueting suite adjoins two further suites which contain private bars. The Main Bar will comfortably hold 100 to 200 guests and boasts a central bar, mezzanine floor and a private heated terrace overlooking the waterfront. The Vaulted Basement is ideal for smaller events of 30 to 100 people. Stonework sourced from Sunderland town hall sets off three separate vaulted alcoves perfect for networking and private dining. Sunderland Marriot Hotel As the only four star hotel in Sunderland, the Sunderland Marriot is ideal for high profile events. The hotel overlooks Whitburn Sands and is located only 2 miles from the city centre. The hotel boasts six meeting rooms, with the largest function room capable of hosting 300 participants. All-in-all there is 675 square metres of space available for corporate meetings. The facilities include audio-visual equipment and resources, high-speed Internet access and a business centre. Catering is available for meeting and the banqueting suites can accommodate numbers from 10 to 250. For out-of-town guests or events that take place over several days, the spacious guest rooms and suites, many of which boast sea views will appeal. A fitness room and indoor swimming pool are also available for use by guests, ensuring that the experience will be fondly remembered.
