Hi,
My boyfriend and I have decided to take a vacation to Cape Cod. We love the beautiful scenery. These are the things we are looking for:
-beautiful scenery
-restaraunt where you can dine on the dock or very close to the water
-a town that has lots of little shops and stuff to do, but isn’t HUGE. We want to be able to walk around from our hotel or something like that or just small drives.
-the cape cod feel, not Huge city feel
-close to stuff to do… we like museums, art, shops, RESTAURANTS, animal watching, and little history stuff.
-Not a far drive to other towns.
-needs to be accesible for us to fly there or get there easily when we arrive. I know Ptown has an airline that goes to and from boston, but I don’t know if this is the most effiecient.
We were thinking of going to Ptown, but a lot of people online said that you should just go there as a day trip. Now I am thinking of Catham. I am just lost. There are so many towns to choose from. We want a romantic trip that includes some of the above points. If anyone could help that would be great! Also if you could let us know the best way to travel/get the fastest if we are flying there from Nebraska.
Thanks
I went to the cape for the first time in May. I had flown in to Logan from the west coast, then drove from Brookline to Falmouth where I stayed with friends who had a family home there. I don’t know where you would fly to that is closer. Ptown was a surprisingly long drive. It may take you nearly as long to get to other parts of the cape if you flew in to Provincetown as it would if you just flew in to Boston and drove. I would bet there are more rental car options in Boston too.
We drove all around the cape. I think your choice of Chatham might be your best choice in terms of location. It will be easy for you to explore the other towns. It seemed that all the towns on the cape were small, charming, quiet and family oriented with Ptown being the exception. It was busy, but I would say it’s worth a visit. There are many restaurants right on the beach.
You might not find everything on your list in one place on the cape. The towns are all rather small. If I was going there to stay, I would choose Chatham or Dennis and then explore all the surrounding areas. We went to a country club in Brewster that had stunning views from the dining terrace, stopped by Truro vineyard for a tasting on our way to Ptown and also stopped by the Yarmouth lighthouse one afternoon too. We had a very nice lunch at the Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham one day and found a yummy candy store in there too. There is a lot to explore.
I hope you enjoy your stay there. I did and will go back again sometime soon.
I would recommend Provincetown
don’t bother flying there from Boston, it will be too much of a hassle, take a ferry instead. Normally I just drive, but it is a very long drive with traffic problems on the way back
I think you want to avoid the area from Hyannis out to Harwich along Rt 28. That’s too touristy and cluttered. Tacky.
That said, Provincetown is probably your best bet for the kinds of things you want to do. It’s right on the water, and you can walk from one end of the business district along Commercial Street to the other in 30 minutes.
You didn’t say where you are coming from, but if you have to fly to the region, Provincetown makes even more sense. Options for public transportation on the Cape are very limited. There is a ferry from Boston to P’Town, and you can connect at Logan for a local flight, and then walk around P’town. P’Town probably offers enough to keep you occupied for several days without having local transportation. But if you stay in another town (like Chatham), you will almost certainly need to rent a car because you will need the flexibility to visit other towns.
