I’ll be staying at the mandalay bay and don’t know if there will be extra fees when we check in, or if there is a way to get around them.

Biggest rip off by the MGM group plus some other private ones. Here is the list of who charges what and who doesn’t charge . . . . Mandalay Bay does not charge at this time but you should call and double check. They have to tell you by law.
There are no resort fees at the Mandalay Bay. Here is a list of hotels that DO NOT charge resort fees.

The resort fees are a con so that a lower rate can be shown Stratosphere has charged them for years but it is only recently that other hotels have started to charge. Some people have got nasty shcoks in particular when they have booked with Expeida thinking that everything has been paid for only get a bill for up tyo $25 for each day of their stay when they check out. The hotels will argue that that they are offering you great value for the extras that you get but hey who wants a notary service when you are travelling and do you really want to pay a fee for every day of your stay so that you can have your boarding pass printed once. I would not object so much if they included things that the knew people would be likely to pay for anyway such as internet access but note that is usually another extra.
rant over
THere is a room tax at every resort and then IF you want internet you pay a resort fee
