I am going to South Africa in May with my husband. We have planned a lot of the trip, but we have not yet decided the best area to stay in Cape Town. Once we know the neighborhood or area, then it should be fairly easy to search for the right hotels.
A villa or other rental is a good idea, but I first want to know WHERE in Cape Town, which neighborhood or area of the city?
I would suggest renting a villa instead of a hotel. Much better view and comfy.
look at this place,

we spent a summer there and it was amazing. I don’t know what the prices would be right now.
I would try to stay near the following areas. I have been there as a tourist twice.
1. The V and A Waterfront because of all the shops ad restaurants.
2. Sea Point area, just south of it, it similarly is a nice residential section just south of it.
I was there in March this year and we stayed in Houtbay, I thought it was within reasonable distance (20/30km’s) of just about anywhere, the only day we had to travel a bit further was when we did the Stellenbosch wine routes and even that’s not more than an hours drive.
Houtbay has some spectacular scenery and probably the freshest fish and chips in the world – well worth your consideration.
Hi There.
I would suggest you visit the more affluent area’s of Cape Town.
Constantia is a beautiful leafy suburb and is very popular with visitors. The Atlantic seaboard is also fantastic with Camps Bay, Bantry Bay and Llundudo top choices. These areas are near the beach and the properties are breathtaking and world class. I stayed in a rental when I vacationed in the Cape last year. I didn’t have the time to contact Holiday home owners directly to enquire about availability etc, so was lucky to find an estate agency – Holiday Rentals in Cape Town who managed the process for me. Good luck!
The V&A Waterfront is the most central – obviously there’s the entertainment at the waterfront itself but it’s also only about 10 minutes away from Table Mountain and Camps Bay.
I work at one of the hotels there – check it out:

These are your options:
-Cape Town (the city itself including the V&A Waterfront – highly recommended),
-The rather up-market beaches that is seperated from town by mountains – Sea Point to Llundadno (Llundadno and Bantry Bay is extremely upmarket – that is where some of SA’s most expensive properties are)
-the Northern suburbs (Parow, Bellvile, Durbanville – there is not much going on here and you should only consider it if you are seriously low on cash. )
- the Southern Suburbs (everyhing between Pinelands and Constantia – a much more upmarket and much more scenic suburb that the Northern Suburbs),
- False Bay (Strand, Somerset West, Fishhoek, Muizenburg and surrounding beaches – each has a little bit of something special)
Like most people here I would suggest you get a place in town – in the V&A if you can afford it or in a backpackers in Long Street if you can’t. All the areas above are easily accesable from town with Somerwet West being the furthest away taking you about a 45minutes drive. Small towns like Fishhoek and Muizenburg is great, but only for an afternoon drive and some lunch on the pier. If you are in town you will be central to everything!
Either near Camps Bay or Cape of Good Hope. Both exceptionally lovely– make sure to visit!
